"Late Thursday evening, I received the worst phone call of my life; Lane was involved in a traumatic motor vehicle collision. When I arrived at the Emergency Room, I was told that he was alive but that he had suffered very serious injuries which currently impede his mobility, and he will likely need to have surgery to help him recover."
We all fear getting a call like that. No doubt many of us have. Just last Thursday April 21st, the call was made to Evelyn Weinberger, wife of Lane, a longtime Local 52 member who was badly injured in an automobile accident on his way home to his family.
My name is Charles Jeffreys. I'm writing to you on behalf of my friend and colleague, Lane, who I know was also a friend and colleague to many of you reading this. The road ahead for Lane will be slow, but when Evelyn first saw him and heard his voice after the accident, she was just thankful to know that he will have the opportunity to recover. In the days following the accident, that relief turned to anxiety and frustration as she came to understand the weight of the expenses involved in Lane's treatment and medical care. To help Lane and Evelyn, we've set up this channel for contributions and ask that you do what you can. Any help that you can offer will go directly toward these unanticipated medical expenses and recovery efforts.
Thank you so much.
