Lane Tasto Emergency Fund

When it rains it pours & sometimes life can seem so unfair.

In 2019, Lane suffered a stroke while working at his Auto Body Shop, as terrible as it was it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. While he was in the hospital they did extensive testing and also discovered that he had lung cancer & had emergency surgery on his intestines. As a result of the way he fell that day he also suffered a traumatic brain injury. Even though he was in the hospital for three months he was determined to get back to work and be there for his customers.

Unfortunately last year due to suffering the traumatic brain injury, Lane was no longer able to work and was forced into early retirement & as a result he is now on permanent disability, which was really difficult for him because he never wanted to be dependent on someone else.

Being forced into early retirement hasn’t been easy for Lane. If you know him, you know how much joy he got out of working and running his own business for over 30 years. He loved his customers and always went above and beyond for them. As he always said, “No one actually wants to come see me.” Even if all he could do was lend an ear on a bad day he always did what he could to make their day just a little bit better.

At this point Lane has been trying to sell the shop. Due to his injuries he had to close the business. Over the past year we have tried to sell the property, but time and time again the deals have fallen through. During the latest deal a problem was discovered & unfortunately is going to be very expensive. At this time we have no means to pay for fixing the problem in order to sell the building.

Lane has shown kindness to his community his entire life. He was born and raised in Guilford and had always been an upstanding figure in the community. He has donated to many organizations from anyone who has asked, and even from people who didn’t. So now we ask for your kindness to help Lane get through this very difficult time.
