Lane had tmj replacement surgery Jan. 24th, 16.5 hours of surgery and they achieved the results we have been waiting for. Lane and Nicki flew home on 1/31. Lane woke up the next morning and noticed he had some swelling at one of the incision sites, we got ahold of the surgeon, being proactive with Lane’s history of infection, he said they needed to return. Lane and Nicki hopped a flight back to Chicago not even 24hours later. February 2, there was bleeding from his mouth, Dr Alkureishi came in fast, and didn’t hesitate taking him to the operating room. He had an active bleed from a vessel in his jaw. They placed a packing that helped stop the bleeding, which will also dissolve over time. Lane was placed on a ventilator so the vessel could heal and Lane could rest.

February 4, Lane started bleeding again, and it was worse than Wednesday morning. Staff came in and stabilized him, and Lane took a limo (ambulance) ride to Loyola University Medical Center. They prepped him and headed up to the cath lab for an angiogram to see where the bleeding was coming from. They found the culprit got it coiled, and the bleeding stopped.

Saturday, February 5th, Lane had an ultrasound of the right leg, due to having problems finding his pulse in his foot. That came back with an abnormality, on Sunday they ordered a CT-A, this came back with a clot in the femoral artery. Once again he was whisked away to to the O.R. The vascular surgeon said the clot was removed no problems and he was doing great.

Monday, February 7th, was uneventful with another CT-A of the head to make sure the bleeding has stopped. There were no signs of bleeding, but there was a pocket of fluid. They did a needle aspiration of the fluid.

February 10th, Lane was moved from Loyola to Shriners. They welcomed Lane and Nicki back with big hugs, teary eyes and said they were happy to see them. They put him in the PICU just to ward off any bad juju, then moved to his regular room, and upgraded to a soft food diet. So he requested Beggars Pizza. Pasta it was. His belly is beyond happy.

February 15, of Chaos in Chicago…. Lane had an amazing weekend, but later Saturday they noticed swelling again under his right jaw. Sunday Dr Alkureishi came in, looked at it and said to get it cleaned out properly would be another trip to the OR. Monday afternoon he went back to the OR cleaned out that incision, placed a drain to keep the fluid from collecting; he also cleaned out the hip incision from the bone graft site. The Dr. placed a wound vac in this incision to help heal it faster, as the incision is in an awkward spot. Laren surprised them both drove up and will be there with them for a while. He will more then likely come home with the drain in his neck, wound vac and PIC Line. They are hoping to be home within a week with home care set up.

Nicki has been away from work for about a month, which means no income and bills are piling up. The food and travel now, as well as future dr appts will be expensive and hard to cover. My goal is the help a good friend and her family out. Any little bit helps!
