What happened?
On Wednesday evening at about 7pm, Landyn started seizing, which we later learned was caused by intracranial hemorrhaging. Quick actions taken by his dad, Brock and his uncle, Matt allowed the ambulance to arrive very quickly. Landyn was immediately in route to UW Madison Children’s Hospital.
He continued to have seizures for about 45mins, until paramedics were able to administer medication to help. We arrived at the Children’s Hospital at approximately 8pm. The entire medical team was waiting and took action as soon as we arrived.
The team did a CT scan where it was confirmed intracranial hemorrhaging was occurring and surgery needed to happen immediately. Through quick actions by the entire team Landyn was in the OR approx. within 36 minutes of his arrival. (This is incredible!)
When the neurosurgeon started operating it was discovered that Landyn was born with a Cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Which is an abnormal connection between the arteries and veins in the brain. Basically the amount of blood being pumped in couldn’t keep up with the amount being pumped out and it caused an aneurysm.
At this point the neurosurgeon didn’t want to cause more harm so he paused and proceeded to do Bilateral bone flaps to elevate the pressure on his brain. Landyn was then taken to the Pediatrics ICU till his team could come up with a plan.
Landyn has remained as stable as his doctors could have hoped for over the past week. Its going to be a long road to recovery and months in the hospital; as long as things keep progressing. They still need to do operations and the risks are still present.
Things to know about Landyn. (8yrs old)
1. He attended Trinity Saint Lukes in Watertown before transferring to St Pauls Lutheran grade school in Lake Mills, where he now goes to school.
2. He is currently involved in many activities which include basketball, baseball, golf, football.
3. He’s very competitive and doesn’t like to lose.
4. He really enjoys camping and outdoor activities.
5. He has a little brother (Logyn) that he keeps under his wing at all times. He truely is a big brother to him. Those two are inseperable.
6. Loves going out on the boat with family to swim and play in the water, and likes fishing.
7. Loves going to Grandpa and Grandmas house.
8. Enjoys going out Grandma’s Restaurant/Bar to help out. Whether if it’s helping with "dishes" on friday nights or out there just playing around. He tends to brighten up her day a lot of the times.
9. He’s a no veggie guy but will eat his McDonalds.
10. He loves playing video games with all his best friends.
11. Most of all --- He loves his faith. He is probably more outspoken with it than most people in the family, which is an awesome virtue to have
In the end.... The kid is very strong. He’s battling and most definitely a fighter. We landed on D-day and survived what most people haven’t. There are gonna be many more battles before the war is won. And we are hoping to bring home a victory. But in the end we all know that God is good. And whatever happens from here on out is God’s Plan.
