Get Landon a Service Dog

Thank you for taking the time to read Landon’s story.

Landon is a 5-year-old boy with a form of Autism Spectrum Disorder called PDD-NOS (Pervasive development disorder, not otherwise specified) who needs a Service Dog.  He lives with his mom, dad and 1-year-old sister. Landon likes listening/dancing to music, going for walks to the park, and anything that is OUTSIDE. But, Landon has struggled his entire life to do what comes naturally to other children, from using words to communicate to playing on the swing set or even with other children.

Landon has sensory processing disorder,  which puts his entire body on high alert, making him overloaded by the sights and sounds around him.  Often the things he hears, smells, and senses in his surroundings affect him that the rest of us would just naturally ignore.  All of that creates a lot of anxiety in Landon.  This anxiety has kept him from falling asleep and staying asleep at night without his mom or dad. The sounds of nature are overwhelming to him.  He is loving, sweet and funny but has emotional and aggressive outbursts, which are often triggered by what seems like nothing to others around him.

Landon has gone through intense Speech, Occupational, Physical, and behavioral therapy throughout his life and while he responds well to these interventions, he still struggles with daily life.  He does well in a structured predictable environment, but day-to-day life just isn’t like that, although we try.   This is where the Service Dog comes in.

Landon’s service dog will be trained to calm him before his anger and anxiety can escalate.  He will sleep with Landon and attend therapy with him.  Not only will the service dog help Landon get through daily activities and become more independent, he will also be Landon's friend.  His service dog will happily stay by Landon’s side as he plays with his toys and if his sister comes in to interrupt Landon, the service dog will be there to nudge Landon and redirect his behavior before it can escalate.  When Landon is scared or anxious his service dog will lay his head and paws on Landon’s lap to provide deep pressure and calm him.

Landon’s service dog will also be trained to keep Landon from wandering or darting off in public. Landon’s service dog will be trained to remain with him and redirect him back to safety. His service dog will also be trained to alert me when Landon is getting out the house. The service dog will then remain with Landon and redirect him back to safety.

Please help bring Landon and his service dog together.

We need to raise $3500 to cover the costs of the service dog and training. Should we exceed our goal the remaining amount will go toward caring for the dog and equipment we will need during training.

Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated.

You will be changing Landon's life forever and bringing his family some much needed peace of mind.
