Landon's medical expenses
Hello everyone, my name is Rachel and Becky is my sister. As many of you know, my nephew, Landon, has recently been going through a very difficult time. He has been sick for almost three weeks with severe vomiting and diarrhea. Landon has been in and out of the pediatrician’s office with what we were told was a prolonged viral stomach bug. Becky knew something wasn't correct in this diagnosis around the fourteenth day when Landon became very lethargic and was uninterested in eating or drinking at all. If you know Landon well, you know that he is not only a little ball of energy but also a serious food lover.
Last Saturday they brought Landon to a pediatric urgent care where he was given IV fluids for dehydration, and had blood and stools samples taken. Becky and Nick left the urgent care with the same diagnosis that the pediatrician gave them of this just being a prolonged stomach bug, and to keep Landon hydrated until it worked it's way of of his system. Landon showed some improvement in his energy levels on Sunday, and could eat small amounts of food and liquids, but by Monday he was vomiting and very weak again. By Wednesday Landon was quickly declining. He couldn't stay awake for very long, and was minimally responsive when Becky or Nick tried to talked to him. At this point he also could not keep any food or liquids down. They took him to Children's National Hospital and he was admitted. He was given more IV fluids and electrolytes for dehydration, Dextrose (sugar water) for low blood sugar, and and anti-nausea medication in hopes to give him some relief from the persistent vomiting. He has been monitored closely for the past 5 days, and is slowly showing improvement. They recently found out that Landon's stool sample tested positive for E. Coli. Landon has will stay at Children's until he can keep liquids down on his own so that there is no risk of dehydration again at home. He should have a full recovery and start to feel like himself again soon.
Becky and Nick are already feeling the financial strain from the situation because they have both missed multiple days of work over the past couple weeks. Becky only works part-time and doesn't have any PTO or sick leave. They are anticipating a pretty large hospital bill, and their insurance deductible of $2300 has not been met yet. If you are in a position to help them financially, please consider donating so their main focus can be getting their little boy healthy again. Also, If you can't donate please share!
Thank you!♡
