Landon Miller Team Canada at IDO World Championship

I am so honoured to have been chosen to represent Canada at the IDO World Championships in Slovenia! I am so excited to get to learn under some of the best choreographers in the country with Team Canada.

Unfortunately in Canada, dance is not recognized as a sporting event and such Team Canada does not receive any funding from the government and each dancer must secure their own sponsorships.

A little about myself, I am 15 years old and was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. When I was 3 weeks old I was diagnosed with a genetic condition called Cystic Fibrosis. I have worked very hard my whole life to maintain my health and dance is a huge part of that for me. I discovered dance when I was only 7 years old when we went to a family wedding. We came home and I asked my mom to put me in dance classes. I started off in Ballet, Jazz and Hip Hop, later adding other genres such as Contemporary, Lyrical, and Tap. While still training in most genres, Hip hop and Contemporary have become my focus. I train about 20 hours a week and hope to pursue a career in film and dance in the future.

I auditioned for a spot on the Team Canada hip hop team in March and was honoured to be asked to join the team. This is an amazing opportunity to accelerate my training and represent my country. There are 6 training session between June and Mid-October for the team in Burnaby, British Columbia. Being based out of Saskatoon creates additional financial requirements for Dancer to participate in the training for Team Canada and attend the IDO Championships.

I have set my fundraising goal to cover the cost of participating in the Championships in Slovenia, and flights. The total cost of my trip including travel to train in Vancouver is $18, 594. I appreciate your consideration of helping me realize my dream of representing Canada at the IDO World Championships in October.
