Landin's Fight with Leukaemia
Donation protected
UPDATED OCTOBER 10, 2024
This week, Landin and his family received the devastating news that Landin has relapsed with Leukaemia returning.
As a result, Landin will be starting an intensive, hard, and another long journey of chemotherapy. Additionally, he will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant.
Landin has started a 28 day in-patient chemotherapy treatment at the Jim Pattinson Children’s Hospital. This will be followed by 2 months of continued chemotherapy in Saskatoon where he and his parents will stay at Ronald McDonald House or the hospital, depending on how this month goes.
It will be followed by a 3-4 month stay at Winnipeg or Calgary for the bone marrow transplant process.
It will be long. It will be hard. It will be emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausting.
If you are able, please support Landin and his family in any way you can. This could include texts/calls of love and support, watching Chase at the rink playing hockey this winter alongside his big brother Nicholas, or supporting financially to lesson the burden and stress of the cost of travel, parking, food, no income, and bone marrow transplant.
If you wish to support financially, please feel free to donate on this Go Fund Me page or directly e-transfer to Darin and Tara. For e-mail for e-transfer, please see Facebook post.
Sincerely,
Chantelle Wrubleski
2023
Tara, Darin, Nicholas, Landin, and Chase Wrubleski learned of Landin's diagnosis of High Risk, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia on Thursday, March 30. He was immediately admitted to the hospital, followed by a stay at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital, with the family being able to return home 1.5 weeks later.
They are very happy to be home, however, the prognosis will be a long process. For the first 2 months, Landin will travel to Regina 1-2 times a week for chemotherapy and blood work, with some Saskatoon stays in the mix. The potential of a regular cold, fever, and blood transfusions will lead to more hospitalizations. For roughly 7-9 months, Landin will continue to have chemotherapy treatments and will be followed by maintenance which will hopefully consist of pills and check-ups. Overall, it will be a long and life changing process lasting 2 years.
Landin loves sports and has always been on the go playing hockey, football, lacrosse, and soccer. He’s taking after his dad as an expert ice fisher who also loves to play video games. He is an amazing role model for his little brother and cousins who look up to him dearly as he has a great sense of humour, amazing patience, and an infectious positive disposition. Landin’s strength has been demonstrated through this process, as he has a positive, patient, and determined attitude. Even though he is only 13 years old, this does not come as a surprise as he has exemplified these characteristics his entire life. It will be imperative that Darin, Tara, Nicholas, and Chase are the primary sources of strength, stability, and optimism for Landin.
This is an extremely life altering and stressful time in their lives. Ultimately, having people who can provide emotional and financial support will help reduce the family’s stress, and help them put their energy into being the best support system possible for Landin. There will be additional travel, food, and general hospitalization expenses along with missing work. Any type of financial contribution will be greatly appreciated and will be a wonderful way to support the family through Landin’s long treatment journey.
