Lance Murphy's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Lance Murphy, a father of four, a brother to seven, and a friend to many. Lance grew up in Menlo Park, where he was active in sports and in the community. He went on to pursue a degree and a college basketball career at Notre Dame De Namur in Belmont, California. Lance continued a career at Hewlett-Packard in Roseville, California.

In 1996, Lance was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which he overcame. Sadly, in 2007 he was diagnosed again with Stage IV sinus cancer located dangerously close to his brain. In order to rid him of the tumor, he had to undergo many chemotherapy and radiation treatments. With Lance’s strength and the support he received from others, by miracle, he beat cancer once again.

With everything Lance has been through, as a two time cancer survivor, the road to recovery is still not over. The long battle with cancer has left behind numerous side effects. Countless radiation and chemotherapy treatments have left damage to his skull and throat, leaving him unable to consume food or liquids. Doctors believe he will never be able to eat again. As a result, a feeding tube has been inserted to provide him with his daily nutrients. A lack of energy has made him bed ridden, unable to drive, and on permanent disability. Most importantly, he is experiencing severe pain and has become dependent on his prescribed medications and highly addictive painkillers.

Although the painkillers remove the pain temporarily, they're also leaving long-term, negative effects to his body and quality of life. Lance’s health has drastically started to become worse as a result of his high level and constant intake of these pain medications. We, as a family, have done everything in our power to care for him at home. But after recent events, we concluded that Lance desperately needs immediate, professional help. With everyone’s generous donations, we plan to get him into a detox and recovery facility that accommodates every aspect of his needs.

We can’t thank everyone enough for the overwhelming amount of love and prayers that Lance has received. It has truly helped keep his spirits high and motived during this extremely tough time. The Murphy Family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts for any donations and support you can offer.
