Lana’s Little Free Libraries (Sweet 16)

On Saturday, March 26th, 2022 at the early age of 15 Lana became an Angel. We found her after she had accidentally ingested a lethal amount of 100% fentanyl. For $3 Lana had purchased what she had thought was a Percocet.

To date, Lana is the youngest victim of overdoses in Lexington County. The overdose rate and deaths continue to climb here in our county and across the United States.

Given the surge of deaths and overdoses across the US among students, athletes, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, uncles, aunts, grandparents and addicts alike, May 10th has nationally been recognized as the official fentanyl awareness day where we wear purple in memory of those we have lost.

Lana was an artist, a softball player, and a gifted singer who performed and participated for multiple years in the District 1 South Carolina Childrens Honor Choir (Tri-DAC). At the age of 4 she began playing the guitar.  Lana became a talented self taught musician who could play over 5 instruments and read and write music after never once taking a class.

Lana was an honors student in English, Math, and Science, a sister, a daughter, a niece, a friend.

Please join us at the Summerlake Clubhouse on what would have been Lana’s 16th birthday, August 9th from 6pm-9pm. We will be unveiling and dedicating Lana’s Little Free Library to the Summerlake Community.

Thanks to your incredible generosity and support we were able to purchase the biggest library they offer which is a two shelf, double door 2’x2’ free standing library. An amazing Summerlake neighbor also donated a bench to set next to the library for everyone to use.

We plan to gather together thereafter for a short potluck. Please bring a dish to share and any books you would like to donate to the library. There will be a Book Basket drop box at 24 Clubside Court for any books that you would like to contribute. We will stamp the books and emboss them in her memory. All books are welcome for all ages as this is a community hub meant to serve everyone and a place for all to give and take.

We created a GoFundMe which we hope you will continue to share. Your support helps to spread awareness and will help save lives.

Thanks to you, we quickly met our first goal.

We plan to continue to raise more funds in order to place another little library at Lexington Highschool where Lana attended her sophomore year. Any additional funds raised past the goal will be used towards a second library and to purchase new books for readers of all ages.

In celebration of Lana’s life, enormous personality, and her passion for the endless adventures found in books we are grateful that you helped us make this memorial possible.

The library will be located in the Summerlake community at her home next to the clubhouse/pool where she drew her last breath. A collection of Lana’s books will be donated among others donated that start the library all of which will be hand stamped and embossed in her memory.

Lana’s little sisters (Rian and Charli) and one of her best friends Maggie will help me paint the libraries in her memory.

Book donations shipped via Amazon, or anywhere else can be delivered to: 24 Clubside Court Lexington, SC 29072.

There are no words that can describe how much she is loved and missed today and every day.

Her light shines on.

Our hope is that as each season passes and with every book that comes and goes her story, her legacy, and her life will be remembered.

Lana… We love you more than all of the words in all of the books in all of the universe.
