Help Save Lana’s Life. Emergency surgery fund.

Spende geschützt
If your best friend was only given a couple of weeks to live, unless she could pay the hospital in advance, you’d do everything in your power to help save her, right?

My cat, Lana, needs an EMERGENCY procedure. Without treatment this will become life threatening for her.

We still are $4,800 shy of payment the surgery. Which is why I need to ask for support, from you… our community, coworkers, neighbors, friends.

Details and photos below.
  • Lana’s story - Lana was the first cat I ever adopted. She was found in a box on the Mesaba Trail. Underweight, covered in fleas, a belly full of worms, and an upper respiratory infection. A young abandoned kitten. Nine years ago she changed my life. Before I knew her I was reckless, and filled with with unresolved trauma. Lana gave me a reason to live during my darkest times. She has been with me since I was 21, up until 31 so far. Lana doesn’t look sick, or elderly, or weak. You’d never know that she has a ticking time bomb internally.
  • DIAGNOSIS - February 21st 2024 we had brought Lana in for an urgent appointment with our vet as she had stopped eating. After doing bloodwork, urine analysis, x rays, and ultrasounds we received a partial answer… I felt the shift a when our vet came back in with the results.. She told us Lana’s kidneys were filled with fluid, and didn’t have normal internal structure. As for a prognosis, without intervention Lana was given a couple of weeks to live. My heart broke…. Our vet explained that depending on the cause, it may or may not be something we could treat. She gave us referrals to specialists in the cites, and sent home pain meds to keep Lana comfortable.
  • SPECIALISTS - Every internal medicine specialist we had been referred to was booked out at least a month. For days I continued to call every specialist I could find in Minnesota, and Wisconsin, hoping anyone would have an opening within the short window Lana has.
  • TREATMENT PLAN - The specialist, her team, and their advanced diagnostic abilities gave us hope. They revealed Lana has kidney stones causing blockages in BOTH of her ureters and BOTH of her kidneys. Her kidneys cannot push the fluids through her ureters and into her bladder. The longer this occurs the more irreversible damage is being done to her kidneys. As of now she is partially obstructed, but when she becomes fully obstructed she won’t be able to survive more than 24-48 hours. With cat ureters being so incredibly small, kidney stones can’t just be taken out of the ureters surgically, and stitched back up, without the risks being very high. Since she has obstruction on more than one side, her best option for survival is with a SUB device. SUBCUTANEOUS URETERAL BYBASS. Unfortunately this procedure is expensive.
  • COSTS - the SUB procedure costs just under $11,000. After our financial contributions we still need $4,800 to reach the goal, before they can operate on Lana. Costs of diagnostics, specialists and the first half of the surgery payment took most of my savings, I was very hesitant to create this fundraiser, and to ask for help. I wish I would have overcome that sooner. Lana is a healthy, active, playful, sassy, youthful cat outside of this, who deserves more years. We are hopeful she will return to a good quality of life after her recovery!

Thank you for your support! Stay kind ❤️ Go hug your best fur-friend when you can.
