Lana’s story…
In February 2018 Lana began experiencing symptoms that included excessive bloating, gas, indigestion, shortness of breath, weight loss, abdominal and pelvic pain. When she went to her primary care physician she was misdiagnosed with gas pain. Lana knew that was not right and through her own persistence and self advocacy was scheduled for an Ultrasound in March 2018 that ultimately led to her devastating news that she had Ovarian Cancer.
She went in for immediate surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes followed by exhaustive chemo therapy. During this time Lana had to go on leave from her career as a flight attendant for a major airline as well as from real estate.
After many cycles of chemo therapy following her surgery, she was given the wonderful news…Lana was in remission! What an elation that was. Tragically it was short lived. Just as Lana was set to go back to work and get back to normal life she began feeling similar symptoms as before and in March of 2019 she was told the cancer had returned. Devastating!
Since then she has been given 4 different chemo treatments, experienced some debilitating side effects and sadly none of them have worked. During Lana’s last doctor visit he told her the rest of the options they had to use only have a 30% chance of working. That is not good enough!!
What horrible news! Lana is a fighter and we knew there had to be another. She is going to win this war on cancer!
A friend of Lana’s had heard of this physician in Long Beach, CA who specializes in Functional profile testing and has put many others with Ovarian cancer into remission. For the first time, Lana was encouraged.
The process of functional profile testing entails having a biopsy done to extract live cancer cells which will be sent to the lab to be tested with 100’s of different chemo drugs in various combinations to see which ones will destroy her specific cancer. Essentially in lieu of Lana having to go through another toxic treatment with a 30% chance of success and a debilitating toll on her system, they do all the testing in the lab to ensure success. (Every person’s cancer is as unique as their fingerprint which is why not all people react the same way to certain treatments.) This testing has had so much success and has saved so many lives. This physician will be working along side Lana’s existing Oncologist to administer the combative chemo.
But here is the bad news…. This biopsy + testing is an 100% out of pocket expense not payable by her insurance company. The biopsy + testing is going to cost Lana anywhere between $7,000 - $10,000 along with many other upcoming expenses + treatment. Through this extensive journey Lana has not been able to work and has been going through her personal savings. Please help me in contributing by any financial means possible. She needs our funds and our prayers more than ever! Join me in helping her to become cancer free! Thank you!
Note from Lana…
To say the last couple of years have been a long tough journey is quite an understatement. Because I am somewhat of a private person I have only shared the details with family and a few close friends. I didn’t post on social media because to be honest it was all just too much for me to process and deal with at times let alone post on the internet for everyone to see.
This functional profile testing is my only option now to find a treatment that will work and I ask humbly for your prayers and financial assistance if possible. I have been blessed with amazing family and friends who have been there for me through all of this while helping me remain strong, positive and hopeful. Without them I don’t know what I would have done. More people continue to surprise me and prove to me how much love there still is in this world. I am determined more than ever to beat this and be cancer free.
Your help would be so gratefully appreciated. Thank you so much and God bless.
