We are helping to raise funds for the medical care and daily bills for Lana Sanders and her family. Many of you know Lana as a therapist or as the wife of Randy Travis, Elvis Tribute Artist. To her friends and family, she is so much more!
On July 28th, Lana was admitted to the hospital following a fainting spell and within a week, was diagnosed with Philadelphia+ Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), a type of Myeloproliferative Neoplasm (MPN). MPN is "a group of rare blood cancers where the bone marrow overproduces one or more types of blood cells.” In Philadelphia chromosome-positive leukemia, a piece of chromosome 9 and a piece of chromosome 22 swap places, creating a new chromosome and a new instruction that tells cells to grow and divide too much, leading to leukemia. Lana started oral chemo on July 29th to help her bone marrow stop overproducing cells. She then began targeted cytostatic chemo (TKI) on August 12th in hopes of successfully treating the cancer.
Prior to this life changing diagnosis, Lana and Randy had already been facing other major life changes. On July 7th, Lana and her husband became legal custodians to her teenage niblings that had resided with them since January. On June 17th, Lana learned their home had a significant amount of mold in it that needed to be removed. Lana and her husband were in the process of preparing for mold remediation when she became ill, drastically moving up the urgency of the process. Since CML is an immuno-compromising cancer, upon release from the hospital, she was unable to return to her home until the mold was removed. Lana was blessed with temporary places to stay until she was able to return home on August 24th.
Lana has been off work since July 29th and will not be able to return for a while. Due to this, her family, which has grown from 2 to 4, has lost a significant portion of their monthly income, hindering their ability to pay monthly bills in addition to the cost of emergent mold remediation and rising medical costs.
Lana's positive spirit, amazingly wonderful attitude, and faith in God are strong at work. While she is unable to work at this time, their family would be greatly blessed by the help of others.
