A simple grocery run spirals out of control when ICE descends on Marisols neighborhood, turning her final night before college into a desperate fight to stand for her people and to protect her family.
Hello, My name is Mariana "Mera" Melendez, I'm 22 years old and a very devoted filmmaker in my third year of film school at Cornish College of the Arts. My plans after college is to work in cinematography and editing and this film succeeding will push me towards my goals in a future of filmmaking I really want to push more latin voices out as our culture is always looked over besides on “Taco Tuesdays." My parents are immigrants from Mexico City and they’re my biggest heroes who have heavily influenced my film. It is my love letter to them but also an expression of my fears. My film, Lamento Mexicano, is the grief and the love I feel for my people and myself. What brings people together and to listen to us if not for grief and love?
Why should I donate?
Donating means you're supporting the idea and cause to work against ICE. To bring attention to this growing issue of not just Latin people but Asian, Black, and more that are being discriminated against. We need more eyes on this issue and the possibility of this film reaching at least one person would have met the goal of this film.
What is my money going towards?
• Your money would be going to feed the diverse and hardworking POC cast and crew.
• Renting spaces and equipment to execute the visuals of the film.
• Completing the editing of the film for coloring, sound, music, and more.
I would really appreciate your help and any amount of money is propelling my dreams. Thank you for reading :)
