Brothers, family and friends,
The University of New Orleans chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity was founded in 1964 under the auspicious approval of founding chancellor of UNO and fellow Lambda Chi, Dr. Homer Hitt.
As one of the oldest active chapters at UNO, we take pride as being the only Greek organization to ever own a house. Our current house is the chapter’s second house and was purchased in the late 90s. The house is a great meeting spot, not only for our brothers, but for the entire Greek community. At this house, many memories are made, traditions are passed on, and rituals continue to be performed just as they once were at 5918 Elysian Fields Ave., where our roots were first established.
2305 Gentilly Blvd. is not only our Fraternity House, but also a symbol of five decades of true brotherhood. Like many Louisianans, the fraternity persevered the aftermaths of Katrina and is now striving to survive the effects of the pandemic.
Hurricane Zeta caused over $15,000 in damages to our fraternity house. These damages are a significant blow to our finances, as our hurricane deductible is a monstrous $25,000.
Usually, the chapter participates in fundraising efforts by working events at the UNO Lakefront Arena. Because of the pandemic, these opportunities have not, nor will be available for some time.
Our chapter has always taken pride in being one of the top Philanthropic Greek organizations on campus. Because of the pandemic, we are unable to raise funds to support our chapter and to continue to give back to our community in the capacity we once did.
During this time, recruiting, networking, fundraising, and charitable events are nearly impossible.
Unfortunately, despite our efforts, the combination of the hurricane and the pandemic have taken a toll on our chapter.
This is why we are humbly appealing to our fellow brothers, family members, and our community partners who have supported this chapter through the years.
We are asking you to consider helping our chapter in any way that you are able. We presently have 771 brothers from the University of New Orleans with the common bond of brotherhood. Our goal is to raise $19,275, which represents $25 for every brother in our bond.
Our intention after recovering the costs of damages, is to donate 50% of remaining proceeds to our dedicated philanthropy, Feeding America, with the balance going to savings.
We certainly understand that this pandemic has affected many in different ways and our thoughts are with everyone impacted. We also understand that many alums are at different stages in their personal obligations and may not be able to help.
We are simply asking that you reflect and consider participating in any way you can. We also ask that take great pride in your brotherhood and know that the active brothers appreciate everything you did to keep the fire burning bright for us. Χαλεπά τά καλὰ
We appreciate your thoughtful consideration to our earnest efforts.
