Lake Travis High School art department is pleased to announce that Ben R and April O, both juniors, earned national recognition in the form of a Silver Key award at the 2014 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. According to the press release issued by Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, "These students have been identified by panels of creative professionals as the most talented young artists and writers in the nation. This year, almost 255,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Only the top 1% were recognized at the national level. These students have been invited to attend a national ceremony at the world-famous Carnegie Hall on Friday, June 6."
We need your help to get to the national ceremony! Please consider making a monetary donation to the Lake Travis High School visual arts program to help send these two students and their teacher, Mrs. Amber Forgey, to the national ceremony in New York City on June 6th.
Even though there are only 3 of us traveling, our costs are high. Our plane tickets cost $876. UPDATE! PLANE TICKETS ARE PURCHASED! The hotel rooms are even more expensive. As a teacher, I cannot share a room with a student. I have one female student and one male student so they cannot share a room either. So we will have to buy 3 hotel rooms in midtown for 3 nights. The hotel rooms will cost us $2634 for 3 nights at the scholastic discounted rate of ($252 plus tax=292.67) through the Roosevelt Hotel in NYC.
We would also like to raise enough money for food and cab fares and there are fees for using this fundraising website. Please consider donating to send these top 1% artists to the national ceremony. Any amount will help us to get there--- there is no amount too small. If 500 people donated 10 dollars each, we would raise $5000.
