We're raising funds to send Lakeland students on a travel study course to Custer State Park and the Badlands. This would be such a transformative experience for students, but a number of them won't be able to travel and take this course on public lands without help. The funds would only be dispersed to those students who need it to seize this singular opportunity.
Travel is one of the most important, formative, self-actualizing, and empathy-expanding experiences a young person can have. However, many of our students are not able to seize these experiences without financial support.
On a travel study course to the Black Hills this spring students will experience the extraordinary beauty and profound, stark sacredness of the Black Hills. They will stay at Custer State Park on the Wildlife Loop and visit singular, unforgettable, uniquely American places such as Devil’s Tower, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse monument, and historic Deadwood. Students will also learn about the role public lands play in American culture, all while exploring the complex, fascinating, multicultural history of public lands through on-site research.
For a number of extraordinary young people this trip would be the formative experience of their college years, an experience that shapes who they become, an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives. However, several students do need financial help to make this happen. So, please, consider impacting a grateful young person’s life in profoundly positive ways by giving what you can.
