Music from the Lake of Treasures

This campaign is an effort to revive the music of the ancient Celts into modern day Celtic Polytheist devotional practice as a part of my work with the Coru Cathubodua. This campaign was initially inspired by the carnyx, but also included the Irish Loughnashade trumpa within it's scope. The carnyx and the trumpa are ancient Celtic instruments, known for their use in battle as well as in ceremony. Only in the last 20 years or so has it been brought back to life from archeological reproductions. In the fall of 2016, at the inspiration of one of my patron deities Lugh, I built a rather makeshift carnyx out of plumbing parts, a gord, and rattles meant for a djembe drum. That carnyx was lovingly named Q-bert. A video of me in action after Pantheacon is here:  https://www.facebook.com/CoruCathubodua/videos/1309459162476032/

Incorporating that initial carnyx into our rituals resulted in a wonderful success. But Q-bert is still a very DIY carnyx, with sound quality far below what a full brass one can be, and not nearly the visual quality of the reconstruction carnyces made in France based on archeological finds.

After meeting with the group Ancient Music Ireland and playing their replicas of the Loughnashade trumpa, this campaign began to focus on reproducing a horn based on their work. This horn will be employed in the devotional rituals I facilitate with the Coru Cathubodua, educational events centered around ancient Irish and Celtic practices, political direct actions and demonstrations, SCA war events, and musical improvisational fire ceremonies that I also partake in. With this tool of sonic and visual ferocity, I intend to serve my communities by calling the gods and providing a sonic charge that amplifies the work we do.

Here's a glowing review and the first large donation from Leah Samhain.
"I've been attending the Coru Cathubodua Priesthood - A Polytheist Priesthood of the Morrigan devotionals for the last couple years, and this year they incorporated the Carnyx. I was lucky enough to attend the devotionals at Pantheacon, and HOLY WOW! I've always found their devotionals quite powerful, but this time the carnyx calls dropped me deeper into trance, resonated through me, and took my experience to a place I'd never been before. This fund will allow them to buy a hand-crafted, metal replica of an original carnyx, that will function and sound better than the carnyx they currently use. Please consider donating any amount and/or sharing for a signal boost!"

Your contribution to this effort would be deeply appreciated and support the work of sovereignty, sacred cermony, and creative expression of the Celtic spirit.

The estimated cost for this work of craftsmanship is roughly $2000, with extra funds needed to cover secondary items like a case and preferably a stand. After meeting with Ancient Music Ireland, I came to understand that traditionally the Loughnashade trumpa came in pairs. So in the spring I will launch a second iteration of this campaign to make a second trumpa, to which any excess funds from this campaign will be applied.
