I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to share the struggles our Lake Bonny community is facing after the devastation of Hurricane Milton. What began as minor flooding from Hurricane Debbie turned into a long and painful journey—when Milton hit, the water rose fast and high, submerging our homes for 21 days. Many of us are still displaced, uncertain when or how we’ll return home.

But the storm wasn’t our only challenge. A failed pump system and outdated infrastructure left us vulnerable, and the response from city, county, and federal agencies has been deeply disappointing. FEMA has offered only the bare minimum, and the support we’ve received falls far short of what’s needed for our community to recover.

We’re not asking for handouts—we’re asking for a path forward. Our neighborhood is made up of hardworking families, many caring for children, elderly parents, or sick loved ones. We need resources: building materials, skilled volunteers, financial support, and services to help us rebuild homes and lives.

This effort will also support our grassroots group, Citizens for Flood Prevention – Lake Bonny. We’re committed to holding our local leaders accountable and pushing for real, lasting solutions to prevent future flooding and protect our community.
