Laith's Last Gender Affirming Surgery
Donation protected
Hi friends and random kind people,
Important Surgery Update (2/28):
As of today, I've placed the deposit and booked my flights to Bangkok to work with a Thai surgeon who specializes in GRS. The procedure is scheduled for April 29th, 2025. I'll be leaving the States on April 17th.
Luckily, I was able to negotiate most of my refund back from the other surgeon's administrative team after dealing with the huge lapse in price transparency and communications on their end.
With that being said, the remainder of the funds earned will go towards paying off all $27k of expenses this procedure will now cost me up-front. This includes the surgeon and hospital fees, anesthesia, accommodations, and flight costs. As always, every little bit helps so please keep sharing and donating.
Important Surgery Update (2/22):
After placing the deposit down, taking out $30k of loans, and trying to get an exact quote for the hospital fees for my gender reassignment surgery, I was informed that the fees would be an additional $16k more than I was quoted when placing the $5k non-refundable deposit. Needless to say, I was not prepared to finance that much more. Unfortunately, I've run out of loan options. Unless my partner's insurance agrees to cover the procedure up front, I will be forced to cancel the procedure and forfeit my deposit. This is the second time in two years I've been misled and misinformed about fees related to this procedure in the United States.
Still, I can not afford to put this procedure off anymore under the current administration which is continually rolling back trans rights, including access to healthcare. And so, I'm not currently looking at moving the surgery to April 29th and working with a doctor based in Bangkok, Thailand. Doing it this way is less than ideal as I will have to keep the loans I was originally going to get reimbursed for and pay them off over the next few years, but at this point my options are limited and the sense of urgency is growing every day.
Thank you all so much for continuing to support me through this process as it's been incredibly predatory and difficult to navigate. Needless to say, I'm feeling very disheartened after all this. But despite being taken advantage of yet again by the insurance and healthcare industries, I will get this procedure done no matter the costs. So please keep sharing, donating, and contributing.
Original Post:
It's been 4 transformative years for me, but my medical transition is finally coming to a close. With that being said, I'm fundraising for the $5k deposit needed for my gender reassignment surgery coming up on March 17th, 2025.
This is the last big surgery I'll be undergoing and I hope to undergo it and recover safely with enough time to begin pursuing my Master's in Public Policy in the Fall.
Up until now, between my insurance, the support of my loving partner, and financing, I had enough funds to take care of all the related expenses for this procedure without needing to reach out to the community again. Unfortunately, as of recent some of those financing plans have fallen through. And so, I'm reaching back out to the community to help me get this deposit in by the end of February. After that, I've found alternative financing options to cover the rest until my insurance reimburses me.
Throughout the years I have come to love and understand myself so many new ways. Still, I recognize there is so much growth to be experienced outside of my trans identity. More importantly, there is so much work to be done for this community. I am looking forward to living the rest of my life safely and at home in this body, while hopefully giving back to the community that has raised me.
Thank you all so very much for all the love and support over the years. If you have the means, I ask that you please donate to my transition one last time. If not, please share within your circles. I also welcome any other creative ideas folks may have to offer to help me raise the funds.
Stay safe everyone and let's continue to support one another through these difficult times.
