Hello, my name is Marisa Pagano, and I am fundraising for my daughter Laina Hunt. Laina is 21 years old, and about 6 weeks ago, she started having pain in her side. She has been in so much pain that she has been unable to work. Laina has been to multiple doctors to discover why she has been in so much pain. The doctors kept telling her that she had pulled a muscle or she may have fractured a rib. However, Laina's pain only got worse. On Dec 7th, she ended up in the emergency room in unbearable pain in her side and a heart rate that was enough to scare the doctors into doing further tests and a scan of the area. The scan shows that Laina has a large mass on her pancreas. This mass puts pressure on her other organs and into her diaphragm, causing all her pain. Laina has multiple doctor appointments for further testing and to determine a plan to remove the mass. The doctors have told her that this mass could be cancer; even if it's not, removing it would still be a long journey with appointments, surgery, recovery, and a lifelong diet change. I will keep everyone updated on her diagnosis and treatment as they occur. Laina is still in the early phase of this long journey, and doctors have told her to be prepared for out-of-pocket medical costs that insurance will not cover, estimated at around $10K. Unfortunately, cancer runs in the family, so we are all nervous. However, many people survive cancer with early treatment. I have high hopes that Laina will also recover. Laina has already been out of work for over a month. With this diagnosis, she is now looking at being out for at least another 4 or 5 months, depending on the treatment she has to endure. I am asking anyone who can please help her during this difficult time. She is a young lady with a heavy burden on her shoulders.
