Lailo Farm Sanctuary Fundraiser
Donation protected
We haven't asked for donations for a long time now. We've gotten by okay thanks to a small group of monthly animal sponsors whose help covers some of our regular feed and bedding costs. However, we've taken in many new animals this year including two cows so our expenses are increasing quickly. We've also had a number of expensive vet bills this past year. Our hay and bedding expenses are adding up and though we've spent thousands on hay already this year we still need to do another large order. In addition, we've done a lot of work around here to accommodate the new animals and improve the lives of the ones already here. Please help us cover some of these expenses so that we can continue to do this work.
This past year we've taken in the following animals:
- Oliver, a khaki campbell duck, who was injured and lost part of his bill due to a mink attack
- Louie, a young pig, who was very skinny and mangy upon arrival
- George, a tiny cow, who arrived here very underweight and covered in ringworm and lice
- Mo, a kunekune pig being advertised as friendly and ready for processing
- Blanche, Sophia, Red, and Rose, four hens who needed a safe home and to have their leg mites dealt with
- Pitter and Patter, a couple of muscovy ducklings who needed a safe home
- Flo and Franny, two factory laying hens who escaped during handling between sheds
- Norman, a bull who needed a safe home so he wouldn't end up in the food system
- John and Mary, two sheep who needed a new home following changes in their person's life
We've helped find loving homes for:
- Diesel, a potbelly pig who needed a new home due to his people being too busy to care for him
- Clover (previously known as Charlotte), a piglet whose person couldn't keep her
- Five hens who needed a new home due to their person moving
- Ducky, a little hen who was unwell and not walking properly
Some of the projects we've done around the property:
- Built a large new predator-proof bird coop and storage shed
- Created a larger stall in the barn and a new door to the paddock
- Built a small wooden fenced area to divide up the area between the pigs and main paddock
- Put up a long stretch of wire fencing to divide the main paddock
- Renovated the exterior of the barn to give it a facelift
- Redid our driveway and increased the parking size to accommodate volunteers and visitors
- Put in a gravel pad behind the barn so that the area outside the doors stays mud-free
Some of our vet bills this year have included:
- Louie's neuter
- Lucy's spay
- George's health checks
- Pearl's stitches for his neck wound
- Socks' chest pad abscess
- Socks' emergency vet visit when he was in severe pain
- George's grain overload emergency vet visit after he got into duck food
- Norman's castration
Next year some of the jobs we want to do:
- Install new fencing to create two new paddocks in the front of our property
- Build new shelters for these two new paddocks
- Get in a tractor to level out the pig ruts in the main goat, cow, sheep paddock
- Reseed the paddock areas that have been most damaged by the pigs
- Replace the roof on the barn
- Build a lean-to in the main paddock
- Repair fencing and open up wooded area of our property to the goats
We really appreciate any help that you are able to give.
Thank you all so much for your support! We couldn't do this without you!
