**UPDATE - Claudia was finally able to get ahold of the other owner who has agreed to pay the vet bill, YAY. Thank you so much for your donation, if you'd like a refund please just let us know! However, Claudia did have to cancel a couple big gigs to stay home with Laika the next two weeks and could still use a bit of help, so if you're still feeling generous, we thank you very very much!**
If you know my sister-in-law Claudia, you already know how big her heart is, and how much her pup Laika means to her world. You also probably already know Claudia lived through any dog-parent's nightmare when Laika was attacked by another dog who escaped their yard on January 3.
Laika had two deep puncture wounds, she was taken to the emergency vet where she had to have x-rays to check her trachea (luckily it's fine) and emergency surgery to insert drains into her wounds so they will heal properly and cut out skin that would not heal. The total vet bill was about $2,182.73, and this will likely go up with upcoming vet visits to remove drains. Though Claudia has tried to reach out to the other dog's owners (who were very apologetic right after the incident), there has been zero response.
The good news, Laika will be ok. The bad news, she can't go for walks or play for the next two weeks until she heals. This means Claudia has had to cancel some jobs and other activities to stay home and tend to her babygirl. Of course this wasn't even a question in Claudia's world - she has and will always do what's best for her pups. That being said, this is a pretty big financial hit for Claudia, on top of the emergency vet bills.
So if you have anything to spare for this perfect duo, we would be forever grateful.
