Hi, my name is Isa and I'm starting a fundraiser for Lahmia (Mia).
She is a close friend, fellow Marine Veteran, who just experienced one of the most devastating events one can imagine.
Yesterday evening she went through one of the worst nightmares imaginable when her home caught on fire. While this is in and of its self can be devastating, especially when you’ve worked so hard to purchase your very first home, she also lost 5 of her pets to the fire (4 dogs and 1 cat) including two emotional support animals. There are no words to express the grief that comes with losing a companion, but to lose all of them at once is an unimaginable weight and trauma that I would never wish upon anyone.
One of the first things we are trying to take care of to give Mia some peace is laying her babies to rest. To lay them to rest we will have a water cremation performed, we feel this is a more appropriate and respectful process considering their lives were lost in a fire. However, this process is more expensive than traditional means.
Additionaly,
4 of her beloved pets managed to survive the blaze, but now will need to undergo medical observation and evaluation for their lungs and the damage.
Insurance can cover many of the damages to the physical structure of a home, but a home is truly the ones who live within the walls and unfortunately is not covered. This is one area we can step up to provide relief.
I am organizing this fundraising campaign in the hopes that we can alleviate some of the weight that comes with rebuilding everything that was lost and bringing some closure, even though it cannot possibly heal the wounds left from her departed companions. In addition, if there are any out there who know of volunteer organizations in the Mesquite area or DFW as a whole who help, let us know. We are all stronger if we stand together as a community and hopefully bring a little light back into her life.
Anything else, will go towards food, toiletries, basic everyday needs to live while we get everything sorted out with insurance companies etc. I will provide more updates as we continue this process, just be patient as it is a lot to deal with emotionally and physically.
