Lahainaluna Class of 1982 Maui Wildfire Victims
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Compassionate Supporters,
In light of the devastating Maui wildfires that recently swept through Lahaina on August 8th I wanted to start a fundraiser for the Lahainaluna Class of 1982 to raise funds for all those that lost their homes and belongings. These families have lost not only their homes, but loved ones and sense of security. Now, more than ever, they need our help to rebuild their lives.
To give more back story I wanted to share how important this fundraiser is to myself, but more importantly my mom. My mom moved to Maui in 1978 to live with her mother and step father, Betty and Roy Sakamoto. Julie “Ehu” Flynn-Sherlock (Class of 1982) attended Lahainaluna High School as did my grandpa Roy Sakamoto (Class of 1960) and his father Hiroshi Sakamoto (Class of 1929). It's hard to explain the sense of community and family that her class have even to do this day. I've personally been able to experience this bond by attending many cook outs, beach days, and the 30th & 40th class reunion camp outs. The city of Lahaina has a special place in my heart and I'm heart broken by the devastation to such a beautiful community with so much history.
The first thing that came to my mind when this event occurred was how can I get to Lahaina and help. Unfortunately this wasn't an option, so I thought how can I give back in any ways possible to the people that were so loving to myself and my family.
In support of this fundraiser I'll be running the Boulderthon half marathon in Boulder, CO on October 8th (approximately two months from the fires). Our goal is raise $5,000 to disperse to those of the class of 1982 who lost their homes and help them in any way possible.
Together, we can help the class of '82 rebuild their lives, homes, and dreams. Your compassion and generosity will make a lasting impact, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
Much love & Mahalo,
Reagan Sherlock
