There are no words to describe the devastation and the loss suffered by so many in Maui over the last couple weeks. My family truly thanks everyone for the support, love, and prayers throughout this difficult time.
Unfortunately, my mom, Cruz Ortiz, has been largely affected by this tragedy.
After losing Lahaina Coolers following the pandemic (the restaurant she part owned), then finding strength to battle through Cancer, she had just begun to find some stable ground once again.
Then August 8th came. She managed to flee her newly-occupied apartment with her car, her phone, and the clothes she was wearing as the fire swept through Lahaina. That apartment, along with everything she owned, is now lost. My mom is currently staying with (extraordinary) friends as she regains her bearings, navigates FEMA, Kaiser, and all the things…
There will be much for her to figure out in the coming days, weeks, months and I thank you for any assistance you send her way to help her in starting over, or for just sharing this page with others that they may be drawn to help.
