Lahaina Hawaii Wild Fire, Michael Crabtree
Donation protected
Hello, My name is Corey and I am fundraising for my Cousin, Michael Crabtree. Michael was born in Korea and adopted by my aunt Joyce and Uncle Dale in 1982. My aunt Joyce lives in Kihei on Maui. Michael lived at 901 Kapili St in Lahaina, Maui. Last week he left his house to go to work at the Westin Hotel which is in Ka'anapali a few miles from his home. Little did he know that the fires were traveling at very high speed in the direction of his home. Once he got to work, he saw smoke toward where he lives. Michael tried to head home to rescue his pet bunnies and gather his life belongings. He decided to drive back toward his house but had to turn around for his safety because of the speed of the wildfires. Unfortunately, the bunnies succumbed to the fires and his house was destroyed during the event. Michael lost everything other than his car, and the clothing on his back. I was in Lahaina in February, and this once-beautiful town was a staple of the Island. The former capital of Hawaii lost everything, including the iconic Banyon tree. The winds were so high, the fire spread like an inferno. The residents are trying to heavily water the Banyon tree with hopes that it might start to revive itself. The Westin is empty from tourists but is giving shelter to their employees who lost homes in the fire and have no place to go. There is no cell service, electricity or water. Gas stations are closed as well as grocery stores. I have decided to do the gofundme so Michael can replace some of the items he lost as well as find a new place to live. I thank everyone who considers donating.
