Lahaina Fires relief for "Carpet Steve" Campbell

Aloha,

My name is ashley. I am creating this go fund me to help relieve the stress/worry my parents are expriencing due to the lahina fire. Our entire hometown went up in blaze on 8/8/23. The same day we celebrated my younger brothers birthday. As the day of celebration came to a quick end. We could only think of our parents and if they were safe in lahaina. After many failed attemps to reach them on that grim tuesday morning the only thing we could do is stay informed on what was going on. By 9:00 pm i finally heard from my father. Tears filled his voice when i spoke to him , i already knew the house was gone. He spoke of how the black of midnight filled the house with smoke so thick he couldnt breath. In a panic to get everyone out he reached for our family cat who was so confused about the events she ran off. Unfortunatley he could not find her. Our landlord live's in the front house , the sweetest 94 year old lady. Things happend so quickly her family didnt have a moment to reach her. My dad as quick as he can got her and her grandson in the car and raced out of our neighborhood that was already up in flames. With fires all around making it out was a slim chance. By the grace of god they made it! With nothing but the clothing on their backs they serched for safety from the chaos.

I could only think back on Our family's gathering place was no more, the place where we could go no matter what and seek refuge from the world. My fathers hard work and contentment was no more. I went numb when he told me , but quickly came back to earth when he said they were alive.

If you know my dad (Carpet Steve) as lahaina would call him. He has the biggest heart and will do anything for anyone. In my lifetime we have helped countless friends and family members with a safe space. My sibling and my friend's grew up at my house because all were welcome always (Even on school nights , He was a "cool dad") because he always want's to help he never wants to take from anyone. But in this time he needs all the help we can to rebuild his life, our family's home & safe space. He would never ask as he is to stubborn but i know he needs the help of family/friends & community to get back on his feet.
