.My family is posting this go fund me page for my brother, Andy Amano and his wife, Dawn Kawabata , who lost everything in the Lahaina fires. After finally being able to talk to them today there’s no way to describe the horrific ordeal that they endured barely escaping on foot from the wall of flames with only their lives and the clothes on their back. Andy and Dawn had to overcome insurmountable obstacles to lead their family to safety during the tragic fire that happened to our beloved hometown. What started out as a good deed to assist Dawn’s brother up Lahainaluna in securing his solar panels from the high winds, quickly turned into a race for their lives against an apocalyptic wall of flames. The rapidly growing wall of flames, that had started as high wind blown smoldering ambers quickly scattering and igniting everything in their wake. The magnitude of the fire quickly filled the sky with pitch black smoke and ashes, making it impossible to rescue all of their beloved cats from their home, let alone fumble through the darkness of their home to quickly find any possessions they could grab. Andy and Dawn were able to save three of their cats through the thick smoke. The difficult drive to safety became blocked first by a fallen mango tree blocking the road and then the other vehicles fleeing to safety. With no other option too go with the car they tried to drive their way through the old mill yard gate, which would not give way. Once the flames began to encroach upon the car, they had to make a life death decision to abandon in the car and go on foot. Unfortunately, two of their cats would not leave with them and they made the the heart wrenching decision to leave them. Dawn just remembers Andy pleading with her saying babe we have to leave them now or we are going to die here! The flames at this time were so close that Dawn‘s hair began to be singed when leaving the car. Realizing there’s no way to go on foot through Lahainaluna Road Andy and Dawn made their way to wards their daughter, Acacia‘s house. Frantically trying reunite their family and to use a second vehicle in the effort to drive out Which was futile!. Andy and Dawn with Acacia‘s family had to make their way out of backside of the yard through the Kawai and over the sugarcane train bridge towards a Cannery. Dawn remembers, turning around and seeing nothing but little children without parents running for their life. When speaking to them about all the horrible thing they seen and experienced we sobbed several times. We Thank God Andy and Dawn were got out safely and pray for all the families suffering losses . Any help given to And and Dawn shall be greatly appreciated. Their immediate need is being able to provide food, clothing and essentials for their family . Their house and car were engulfed by the flames completely. Please help them start this long road of recovery towards regaining their livelihood, which was taken in an instant. God please protect all of Maui through this most difficult of times. So much loss let s not let my bothers family and all of Maui go through this alone. God bless you for any support you can provide.
