Laffy Taffy's Unexpected Health Scare

My husband and I (Sarah Morandin) adopted Taffy and her sister Sweetie in Nov of 2022. They were rescued from an animal hoarding situation where this women would keep 30+ cats at a time in really bad conditions. Taffy was 5 months old when we adopted her. Today, she is 3 years old.

If you know anything about me, my cats are my entire world and it absolutely breaks my heart to see Taffy in such a declining state with no concrete answers as to why. Within a matter of 24hrs she went from being her outgoing, chatting affectionate self, to vomiting 15 times in 3hrs, crying out in pain, not wanting to eat, losing 2lbs in a few days, and just looking at us for help.

From all of the xrays, ultrasounds, blood work, medications, it is pointing towards either a very bad flare of IBD, or intestinal lymphoma. Usually you would treat IBD with the proper medication, but lymphoma is deadly without proper care. The only way to know for sure is to get a small intestinal biopsy before starting treatment as to not have the biopsy come back as inconclusive.

Currently we are in a hard position where the at home medications were not helping her symptoms so she was admitted into the Emergency Hospital on June 30th 2025 and will be staying there for a few days. We are going to try to get her in for a biopsy as soon as we can, but that can range from 5-10k and might not happen for a few more weeks. That means even more vet bills will be accumulating within that time. But she is only 3, so of course we want the biopsy in case it is cancer.

Between June 26th-June 30th we have already spent $5745.53. I'm sure there will be more vet bills for supportive care until we can get her in for a biopsy.

We of course want to be able to support Taffy and her medical bills on our own. Realistically though, we are struggling keeping up and unfortunately were naive in not getting pet insurance from the get-go. So if you have a pet who is still relatively healthy, please don't make the same mistake we did.

Any support is so appreciated. Anything graciously donated will be going towards vet bills only and will be stored in a separate account for that purpose. If you are unable to donate, I still want to take the time to thank you for reading everything through, and I will be posting health updates and pictures here for anyone interested. My husband and I will be cutting expenses where ever we possible can and will be living in survival mode to try and catch up.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
