I would like to invite you to meet an amazing young man called Thomas, the Thomas this page is dedicated to..... but sadly you cant…. Thomas is dead!
This incredible young man was let down by a system which claims to care, a system which claims to work on Best Interests and Person Centred Principles, a system shrouded in secrecy.
Thomas had Downs Syndrome and Autism - does that mean his life was any less important? - does it mean his thoughts and feelings, hopes and dreams were any less important?
Thomas stopped breathing at the specialist unit, (a place he did not want to be in, miles from his family) and died two days later in hospital. He never regained consciousness. We don't know what happened to him.
There is a major safeguarding investigation called for and a preliminary one happening now.
He had suffered abuse, neglect, over medication, restraint and torment by people paid to 'care' for him during four years in 'the system'.
Now we have to make sure accountability is accepted, and this never ever happens again. Justice for Thomas and his family isn't a nice thing to want - it is an essential thing to need!
This GoFundMe page is to raise funds for legal costs incurred by Thomas's family while fighting for justice - for campaign materials, travelling and accommodation expenses where essential.
