Lady Macbeth
Over a year ago, all theater in New York was shut down. The Shakespeare production I was meant to do in 2020 was postponed to 2021, and then to 2022. Without theater, I focused on writing, and I became obsessed with it. My pilot, Mourning Glory, has since won four screenwriting awards and is a finalist with Sundance. Still, I missed theater. As a means of combining both of my loves, I adapted Shakespeare’s Macbeth to follow an alternate narrative. It was an exciting challenge to take only the original text and reshape it to be the story of a woman so distraught by the loss of her child that she makes horrible choices. I called it Lady Macbeth, and with the help of the NYC Parks Department I am now producing it in Brooklyn. All donations will go to creating professional acting opportunities for artists whose jobs have been taken away by the pandemic, while also putting on a brilliant show!
Lady Macbeth follows the classic story, with all the witchcraft and sword fighting, but with even deeper emotional stakes. The productions will take place outside both to abide by COVID-19 safety protocols and to utilize the magic of the elements.
