RED ALERT: SEVERE STORM & FLOODING IN ANDALUCÍA
Hi, my name is Zoe and I live in Olvera, a small pueblo in Andalucía. We are currently experiencing the worst flooding this area has seen in over 50 years.
In the early hours of this morning, our dear friends Pete and Di (many of you know Di as Lady Goat-Herder) were forced to flee their home. They had to move their animals to higher ground and escape as floodwaters rose rapidly around them.
Pete and Di have spent over 20 years fighting to build and sustain their life here. Their main house is now unrepairable. Just over a year ago, they finally managed to convert one of their stables into a small, warm, comfortable home — the first time in two decades they’ve known that kind of comfort. Tragically, that space is now underwater, with more heavy rain still forecast.
They have taken refuge in a neighbour’s house on higher ground, but they can’t even get their car out — something that is essential for their survival. Pete has had to return through the floodwaters to rescue the large dogs they were forced to leave behind.
The river is threatening to take everything they have built and everything they own.
Please, if you are able to spare even a small amount, any support would mean the world to them at this devastating time.
