Lady Emergency Hospital Bill
Donation protected
Hi there. This Go Fund me is for Lady, our blind, albino dachshund mix, who we adopted 4 years ago. When we first met her, it was clear that she had a fairly intense life. When she ended up at the shelter, she was pregnant, and when we adopted her, her mouth was riddled with gum disease and dental decay. It took her about a year to start warming up to us, as she was a shy and cautious, little creature. Over the years she has become increasingly more affectionate in her own ways, and has learned to trust and love us. She loves spending her mornings out back barking at people as they walk by, going for walks (despite bumping into everything), and more than anything, she loves getting cozy in one of her many blankets and beds around the house.
Two days ago Lady began hemorrhaging (a profuse amount of blood escaping a ruptured blood vessel) due to high levels of inflammation in her bowels and has spent the last 36 hours in the animal hospital. The cause of the inflammation is still unknown. However, the vet said it's rare to figure out why this kind of inflammation occurs, but is likely the result of something she ate. The hemorrhage left her severely dehydrated and in need of intensive care, as they feared her intestines would permeate and she would fall septic.
This morning we received news that the bleeding has finally stopped, but we still aren’t completely out of the woods. More time is needed for her to become stable. We love her so much, and just want her to get better quickly, so she can finish her recovery cozied up in all of her favorite blankets and beds, and feel loved every second of the way.
Aside from this incident, bloodwork shows that Lady is otherwise still a healthy dog, which is why we decided her treatment was necessary, and we couldn't give up on her. This all happened out of nowhere, and escalated quickly, along with the medical bills. The bill is currently over $5,000.00, and only covers the first 48 hours of care. To keep the costs as low as possible, we are doing everything we can to get her home, while also factoring in the risks of taking her out too soon. Any donation would be incredibly helpful, and appreciated, as we were not financially prepared for this kind of emergency.
