In February 2016 my brother Lacy Roop suffered a massive stroke. He was air lifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital and spent several weeks in Morgantown. He is now in a rehabilitation facility in Beckley and will need months of therapy. Lacy was injured years ago and received workmen's comp related to those injuries but had no other health insurance at the time of the stroke. We have worked hard and been blessed to receive charity coverage for the helicopter and some hospital bills at Appalachian and Ruby Memorial. We have also been able to get Medicaid for partial nursing home coverage during his rehabilitation, but the remainder of the facilty cost(3000.00) per month, as well as follow-up doctor visits, go to Lacy and Colleen (his wife) and are more than their income can bear. He has made amazing strides from that first day, but still has a long road of recovery ahead. At the very least, he will need to continue speech and physical therapy, possibly up to a year.
We are asking family and friends to come together and help us raise funds to pay for additional time in the skilled facility as well as at-home therapy once he is released (currently May 1 2016) the at- home rehabilitation becomes a very top priority for us.Upon his release the medicaid ceases as it only applied to nursing home expenses and only a percentage at that.We also ask for your continued prayers for Lacy's health and recovery and for his family as they continue to take care of him. Thank you and God Bless.
