Gail suffered a brain stem stroke on Feb. 20th. Prior to his stroke, he was a healthy and active 48 yr old man that passed his health screening last October with flying colors.
Gail has been primary financial provider as his wife, Georgi, suffers from fibromyalgia and pudendal neuralgia and is unable to work. He is an extremely hard worker that worked as much overtime as possible to make ends meet and care for Georgi.
4 weeks prior to his stroke on the 20th, he was experiencing extreme vertigo and vomiting from a smaller undetected stroke. He has already missed a lot of work (no paid sick leave). After he is stable, he will be transferred into acute rehab. He is looking at a very long recovery.
He has a weak left side (inability to feel hot/cold or pain), difficulty with simple tasks, double vision in one eye, and an inability to swallow. Friday he is scheduled for a more permanent feeding tube. Because the stroke was in the pons area of the brain, it is unclear whether he will regain his ability to swallow.
Because Gail was ill prior to the stroke and unable to work much, they are already in the hole financially. They are looking at more loss from work and staggering medical debt. They are at risk of losing their home.
Gail is a really good man with a huge heart. He is very well liked at work and in the community. He is the type of guy that is always there to lend a helping hand or a kind word.
He and Georgi have a small acreage that is home to 3 rescue dogs, a retired racehorse, a fat QH, and a naughty rescue donkey. They have fostered and saved many animals together and have never turned away a fur baby large or small that needed love, protection, or shelter. They are a loving team.
