Lacey Selman's Medical Fund

2/7/16- The night I got a call from a State Trooper, that my 19-year old daughter, Lacey Selman was involved in a head-on collision.

Lacey had just gotten back from Nashville on that Thursday with amazing news that she had been signed. It finally seemed like all her hopes and dreams were starting to come true. She is an inspiring singer and actress with a bright future ahead of her. Until Sunday night, when I got a phone call that every parent hopes they will never get. Lacey was involved in a head-on collision and was driving her Toyota 4runner at the time of the accident.

I was told she was being airlifted to UAB Hospital, this ended up not happening and she was taken to DCH in Tuscaloosa. She had internal bleeding, abdominal injuries, and liver laceration, which required emergency surgery. That was her first surgery and the doctor told us it went really well but they still have to continue to watch her liver and abdomen. After her surgery, she was taken to DCH’s trauma intensive care unit (ICU). She was hooked up to two feeding tubes and a ventilator after surgery. She got off the ventilator Tuesday afternoon. She also broke both her femurs, her left femur was a compound break and her right femur was completely shattered. She had surgery Monday night, where the doctors used rods on both her broken femurs. Along with these injuries, she also has an Orbital fracture-which is a traumatic injury to the bone of the eye socket. Her eye is swollen from this and she also has stiches on her face. She has some minor cuts and bruises as well. Most femoral shaft fractures takes 4-6 months to heal but usually longer when the bone is broken into several pieces or compound.  Lacey should start physical therapy in Birmingham, AL in the next few weeks. She will stay in Birmingham the entire time she does physical therapy because she will be confined to a wheelchair until she learns to walk again. It is going to be a long painful recovery for her and she begins trying to gain her strength and use her legs again.

Lacey is an amazing daughter, little sister, and friend. She is usually always smiling, very outgoing and it is extremely difficult to see her like this. She was looking forward to pursuing her career and moving to Nashville this summer. As of right now, she has to put that on hold as she recovers. With the trauma, it’s hard for her to understand what has happened or why. Lacey is so strong and I know she will get through this and that God has an amazing plan for her. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
We started this GoFundMe to share her story and to ask for donations to help with the medicinal bills. With Lacey’s two surgeries, hospital stays, and recovery, it is a very expensive process. Lacey is so blessed to have so many people praying for her and people who have been there for her since the wreck. Bobby Joe,  Ali, and I would like to thank everyone for helping us and keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. We appreciate everyone who has done so much for our family and ever little penny counts. At this time, Lacey is more coherent but still in a lot of pain so we ask you to continue to pray for Lacey and our family as the road to recovery has begins.
