Lacey’s Cancer Treatment

Hi! My name is Jacob, I’m Lacey’s second of three sons. My mother is incredible, as all moms are. Lacey has one of the most important jobs in the world, she’s a teacher. Her kids love her, she has kept in touch with many of them over more than two decades. She teaches Spanish, but these kids learn a lot more than a new language from her. They learn about culture, kindness, patience and even how to make guacamole. Being a light in these kids lives is her passion. Unfortunately, Mom was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer about 4 years ago, and she’s been down many paths of fighting this monster since. 4 major surgeries (one was over 12 hours!), 3 different chemos, special diets and supplements, she’s tried it all. Roswell has been incredible. However, after all the surgeries and treatments, the cancer was still spreading. Her doctor even used the words “6-7 months, get your affairs in order”. We were devastated. And although Buffalo Public Schools has been very accommodating, she has been unable to return to the classroom due to complications from the cancer. The light at the end of the tunnel has come from Dr. Patel. Mom would never give up the fight, but the chemo and the cancer were winning, she was barley 100 pounds and couldn’t eat. That is until she found Dr. Patel and her alternative medicine. Mom has been getting treatments such as immunotherapy infusions, cold laser treatments, and different tests to determine best path for treatment. She’s now 9 months out from her grim outlook and her past two scans have been stable. This is a HUGE win. The treatment is working, and we have proof from not only Mom’s progress, but other patients of Dr. Patel’s. However, insurance will not cover this “alternative” treatment. They want to pump her full of chemo, chemo that is making her as sick as the cancer, or sicker. Dr. Patel’s treatment does not make her sick, tired or lose her appetite. She’s gained weight, she is herself again, going to the beach to look for sea glass or on her boyfriend’s boat to cruise the canal. We have Mom back, but her money for treatment is running out quick- it’s about $30k for 3 months of treatments.
