New play ‘Laced’ in Scene and Heard Festival

Murder. Conspiracy. Treachery. And lace…..

The past six months have been full of excitement and glee as I’ve been developing a one woman show called ‘Laced’ - a dark tale about a murder ring among a community of lace makers in 19th century Ireland. Based on true events (yes, true!), ‘Laced’ will be a funny, feminist and thrilling ride AND it’s been accepted into Dublin’s glorious ‘Scene and Heard Festival’ of developing work!
I need your help to get this shocking story of betrayal and thrills from the page to the stage.
As you can see from our target no one is planning on buying themselves frills and filigree, we’re simply hoping to cover our costs. Those costs include paying our photographer and crew, rehearsal room rental and costume hire.
A little background…
Post famine, lace making was one of Ireland’s most important industries with women, and young girls, sometimes supporting entire families. Irish lace was rated as among the best in the world. These highly skilled crafts people barely feature in the Irish consciousness today as women’s occupations tended not to be recorded in the census. Most Irish families have lace workers in their genealogy but know nothing about them.
I’m excited to be developing a show that places these women at its centre and weaves a story about what can happen when a group of disempowered women find themselves brought together to work. Grievances are shared, and a solution found…

The plan…
After our two night run (February 24th and 25th- BOOK YOUR TICKETS NOW!) I’m planning a deeper dive into the history of lacemaking and will then take the time to develop ‘Laced’ into a full length show.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’ve been working as an actor and theatre maker in Ireland for over twenty years. I work in both English and Irish. Recent stage work is with the Abbey and Gate theatres. Recent TV is on ‘Harry Wilde’ (Acorn/RTE). Recent film work is a featured role in ‘Homofónia’ for which I was nominated as ‘Best Supporting Actor’.

Anything you can offer is hugely valued and very gratefully accepted. Time to get these forgotten women on stage and let them run wild…
