Hi,

My name is Sophia Montgomery, and I need your help to get to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

I am a sailor representing Thailand in ILCA 6, the only Olympic boat class where women compete against each other one-on-one. I started sailing when I was eight years old, and at 21 years old, I had the honor to represent Thailand in the 2024 Paris Olympics, where I finished 27th out of 43 countries, Thailand’s highest place ever in Olympic sailing.

I have continued training hard, and I know that I can do even better at the next Olympics, so I’ve initiated my 2028 campaign by moving to Los Angeles. I can train at the Olympic venue in San Pedro while saving what I can from an internship this summer and later from working at UCLA, where I’ll be starting a PhD program in Physics in September.

The path ahead has many steps (see the FAQ for details), and it all starts with the 2026 San Pedro Olympic Classes Regatta this July. My own funds get me there with my boat, and my training gets me there ready to win.

What I still need is an Olympic-level coach.

Luckily, I know three. They’re my fellow Thais, all of whom have world-class skills and experience and have trained me before. (See the FAQ for their bios). They’ve each agreed to coach me for only $100/day--a very special rate for the elite coaching they offer, and their way of donating to my campaign.

Whichever coach is finally available to come to LA to coach me will need flights, housing, food, local transportation, and a coach boat for six days of the actual regatta and three days of training before. In total I need $4800 to cover the costs, or about $535 per day inclusive.

These expenses are all on top of my own expenses, like registration, boat storage and parts, living and travel expenses. I simply can't do it all by myself.

That’s why I’m asking for your help. If you can contribute to my coach’s expenses for this regatta, I will greatly appreciate it! Please be assured that any donation you can make will be spent efficiently and carefully. And in the happy case that there might be something left over, it will go towards my next regatta and other training expenses.

Also, whether you are able to donate or not, please share this post with your friends, or just drop me a quick message of support. I’d love to hear from you! I am truly, truly grateful for even the smallest help.

Thanks for reading and supporting my dream. See you in Los Angeles in 2028!
