Help us give a Brushstroke of Hope: Reviving a Forgotten Past
Hola friends, I want to share a very special project that I’ve been working on for the past years and that is deeply close to my heart: it’s called “La Ruta del Color” (The Route of Color). This project is taking place in my hometown in the Caribbean coast of Colombia.
Like so many places, this little town had been neglected due to corruption and abandonment. Together with an incredible group of friends and family created a foundation called Los Amigos del Parque and decided to bring it back to life and fill it with hope through art and color.
Our focus has been not only aesthetic but also cultural and deeply personal. In San Juan de Betulia, the homes we restore are culturally significant houses, vernacular constructions made from local materials like palm and 'bahareque bambu' (a type of wattle and daub). These houses are more than just buildings; they represent an invaluable heritage from our Indigenous ancestors, an architectural legacy we are committed to preserving and honoring. Also we just don’t improved the facades, we also help improve the lifes of the people who live in this houses.
Each facade becomes a canvas where we don’t just create art—we also tell stories. Stories about the house, its residents, and the people who once lived there. Each painting is a tribute to the current inhabitants and those who came before, celebrating their identity, their roots, and their role in shaping our community.
So far we have paint and restored 50 houses and we have 100 more to go. The place is now visited for tourists and a new life have been injected, creating a better economy for everyone.
Also I want to share that the foundation has been selected as one of Colombian 100 new leaders of 2024. This recognition fills us with pride and inspires us to keep going, bringing more color and hope to our community.
If you want to help and be part of this transformation. We’ve launched this GoFundMe campaign. With your support, we can keep restoring houses, preserving this heritage, and bring more art and color. What would life be without colors .
THANK YOU! Gracias!
