La Mansarda

Hi
my name is Ligia and I am the founder of La Mansarda.

The concept:
La Mansarda started as a self-founded project on March 2022 to support the Arts & humanities projects, while creating a safe space where everyone, from artists to audiences, could express themselves and be themselves.
From the very root of the concept, the idea of freedom has been at its core.
In Italian "La Mansarda" means "the attic" and this is a space often forgotten where we just store things. But, in this sense, it is also a space where there is no right or wrong, and there are no mistakes. It is a space to find refuge from the harsh outside world and allow your inner self to thrive in ways you normally don't in day-to-day life.

History :
Over 2022, La Mansarda has created monthly multi-disciplinary cultural events, celebrating the diverse art scene in Dublin. From comedy to spoken word, music to dance, each event showcases both established acts and emerging talent in a supportive environment. Each event has been self-funded but donations were open on the night, with proceeds going to the artists and charity organizations. This has become a valuable platform and one of the few regular events where artists are paid for their time and efforts.
The 2 years of Covid have proven how fragile is the artistic sector, yet how vital it is for the local communities' souls.
Many artists have been hit very hard and faced extraordinary challenges with remarkable strength. Because all of this, "La Mansarda" has committed to supporting and promoting creative & talented artists offering an intimate space that is open to performances of all varieties of art, from music and dance to poetry to stand-up comedy.
Each event of La Mansarda has been organized in different venues around Dublin city such as a library, cafeteria, local pubs and record studio. This is because the project is community focused and wants to encourage the cross-pollination of ideas as attendees share the staple post-show tiramisu' and swap books.

La Mansarda support for PIC:
In the spirit of supporting humanitarian projects, La Mansarda has strongly supported PIC during the last year.
PIC~ People In Cooperation is a humanitarian non-profit association founded in 2014 by Andrea Mastria, the current president of the association and also a nurse in Italy with a Master's in pediatric oncology, and Antonio Martella, the vice-president and a surgical nurse based in Chimbote.
Thanks to the founders' dedicated work and effort, PIC has achieved significant milestones over the past 8 years. Such as financing and supporting a project for surgeons in Chimbote together with the help of the NGO Emergenza Sorriso (Smile Emergency) and the Peruvian Association "Operation Mato Grosso." This project has allowed a team of Italian surgeons to fully operate in Chimbote for free and specialize in plastic functional surgery helping several children and adults with severe skin conditions.
The donations that La Mansarda has raised for PIC will help PIC to get good medical equipment able to provide appropriate diagnostic treatment for adults and children.

This year, La Mansarda will be :

Very honored and excited about it!

Your donations...
I have started this project with great attention and respect towards the Arts.
The goal for 2023 is to be able to set up a team to improve this project bringing it closer to the community enhancing resources for positive individual, and community artistic growth. La Mansarda intends to commit itself to giving opportunity and space where the artists can express themselves and be themselves with no limits.

The donations collected will help to support La Mansarda with the multiple costs that this project involves such as payments for the venue, insurance, sound engineer and more.
La Mansarda has never taken money from the event organized, instead, the amount raised during each event has been allocated to the artists to help them with their art and the humanitarian causes supported.

Personal feedback:
This project was just an idea back in February 2022, and when I first started I felt completely humbled by the world of public support that it had received. It was the start of an incredible journey and the little community that this project built around it has become now part of my family.
Here will find some of the outcomes of this 2022: video
