La (Lala) Vang Memorial
Donation protected
In Late February 2017 Lala was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer with liver metastasis. Lala had been experiencing pain on his side and low energy for a few months and after a few visits to the doctors, the cause of Lala's pain was finally discovered. The family was devastated especially since Lala and Maria had two young children at home - Evee (now 8) and Ian (now 5).
For the past two years, Lala has been bravely fighting for his life.
Despite modern technology, weekly visits to the doctors, chemotherapy, various forms of cultural and spiritual medicines, Lala arrived at Saint John's on Thursday January 24 due to an infection and the news that the infection has spread to the stomach and the lung.
The first couple of days he was still responsive and positive that he was going to beat this. As the days rolled into Sunday he became less animated and his words became less and less. More and more the doctors were looking grim and started to talk to us about a DNR bracelet and what our future plans were. By Wednesday, almost a week after he came in, we were told there was not much more they could do and if we wanted to take him home to make him more comfortable.
Lala lost his battle with cancer on Sunday February 3, 2019. He was surrounded by love and his family at home.
When I first met Lala I never thought he would mean as much to me as he does today. He and Maria gave me Evee and Ian and I will forever be grateful to him for giving me a family when I needed it.
As we now embark on celebrating his life, we must also be conscious of his young children and wife. Lala was the sole provider for his family and when he fell ill, there were many struggles including surmounting medical expenses, and other living costs. In launching this campaign, the hope is to cover funeral expenses and any other residual and future needs of his family. Anything and everything is appreciated.
Funeral details will be updated as soon as possible.
If you would prefer to donate in person or via another method please contact Shoua Woodford (Xiong).
Thank you for all the love and support.
