La Familia de Torres- The Torres Family

Hi, my name is Grace Zuber and I am creating a fundraiser for the Torres family as they undergo unexpected medical expenses.

When I met Mr. Torres (Isaiah), the fear on his face was palpable. He showed extreme concern for his son's health. He knew something was wrong with his son, Cesar, and he was right.

Cesar is just like every other 8-year-old boy. Until one day, the strep throat infection he was already treated for showed back up undetected. Cesar's condition had been worsening but it took a while before doctors found the culprit behind his weakness, anemia, blurred vision, apathy, and shortness of breath. The rheumatic fever had begun to infect Cesar's heart. Unfortunately, when strep throat is not treated it can lead to Rheumatic Fever, an extremely rare condition.

Cesar has been hospitalized since September 15th. He was recently transferred from Peoria to Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. This is where Cesar will remain until he is strong enough to endure the open heart surgery necessary to replace two of his heart valves.

During this time, his mother, Mrs. Torres (Carolina), has understandably let go of her position at Tanner's Orchard to be with her son 24/7. This has reduced their household income. My hope is that this GoFundMe will help them in their time of need. As Mr. Torres continues to work and care for their other children, these funds will be used to help with whatever they need.

Working in Depue has been one of my greatest blessings. I serve a community that is full of pride, family, and love. I am honored to help this family as I know what it is like to undergo the unexpected that life can throw at you. I have no doubt in my mind that we will be able to help this family navigate through their time of need. Let's do what this community does best, and support the Torres family!

Cuando conocí al señor Torres (Isaiah), el miedo en su rostro era palpable. Mostró extrema preocupación por la salud de su hijo. Sabía que algo andaba mal con su hijo César, y tenía razón.

César es como cualquier otro niño de 8 años. Hasta que un día, la infección de garganta por la que ya había sido tratado volvió a aparecer sin ser detectada. Desafortunadamente, cuando la faringitis estreptocócica no se trata, puede provocar fiebre reumática, una afección extremadamente rara. La condición de César había ido empeorando, pero pasó un tiempo antes de que los médicos encontraran al culpable de su debilidad, anemia, visión borrosa, apatía y dificultad para respirar. La fiebre reumática había comenzado a infectar el corazón de César.

César está hospitalizado desde el 15 de septiembre. Recientemente fue transferido de Peoria al Hospital Infantil Ann y Robert H. Lurie de Chicago. Aquí es donde César permanecerá hasta que esté lo suficientemente fuerte como para soportar la cirugía a corazón abierto necesaria para reemplazar dos de sus válvulas cardíacas.

Durante este tiempo, su madre, la Sra. Torres (Carolina), comprensiblemente dejó su puesto en Tanner's Orchard para estar con su hijo las 24 horas del día, los 7 días de la semana.
