“Legs Up” for LaDonna
”Leg UP” for La Donna
It’s a topsy turvy world! Just when you feel like things are going really good; just when you’ve taken two steps forward, life gets in the way and you fall back a step. That literally happened to me last week!
Six weeks after moving into my perfect, third floor apartment in Legacy Apartments on 17N, I had an accident! I have been an independent, self-sufficient (maybe a bit willful or stubborn) woman my adult life, so I am (was) good with projects. I decided last Monday to install hardware for my bedroom drapes. I was on the 3rd step up of my little ladder and was having a hard time with the drill not going as deep as I needed, I was losing my balance and saw the ladder was falling sideways! I took my left leg to catch the fall and with my weight and the force of falling 3 ft, my tibia couldn’t handle the pressure!
Thanks to friends who came to help me, carried me down the two flights (no elevators) to a doc-in-the-box and after they saw the x rays, told me, “When you do something, you do it good!” Ughh!
They referred me to an Orthopedic surgeon. There I learned I would need surgery getting screws and a plate, which is scheduled for Jan. 23rd at Trident Medical Center. He then told me recovery would be 2 1/2 months! “WHAT?” The tears started to flow!!
At first I backed away from all suggestions asking for financial support. But, after putting pen to paper, I knew that I would need financial help, with 2 rents, (home and salon), utilities, personal expenses but mostly with medical bills! I do have a basic BCBSpolicy with a $5000 deductible. And, it’s January! I did start taking my Social Security last year hoping to be able to get ahead while still working still isn’t enough to cover all my expenses. Plus, I am not able to get up and down stairs at my home for awhile so I am trying to get into a rehab!
Bottom line, friends and clients, I truly need your help! You know my work ethic and you hopefully know how responsible I will be with every penny that is donated to literally get me back on my feet!
Those helping me advised me that I should set an initial goal for $15000. Thank you for whatever you can contribute, but, most importantly, for your prayers, love and support’
