LA CITY Fire Department Going beyond to help

Last week my family was involved in a traffic accident in which our only vehicle was destroyed. LA City Fire Truck 93 responded and, after seeing the totaled car, asked us if we needed a ride home. I had to tell the Captain that the car was our home. My five year-old son, seven year-old daughter and I have used it as our home for the past 3 months. It was devastating to lose it in the crash—it is no longer operational. The firefighters were so kind and helpful, and bought us food and my kids hot chocolate while we were figuring out what to do next. The Captain reached out to LAHSA (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority) family housing to arrange for our temporary shelter. We are so grateful for the shelter, but still need a car to get around for school, work, etc. I am hoping to raise funds for a replacement vehicle for my family—a modest used vehicle that is reliable with room for a family of three. It is so important to us because If we can’t find permanent housing within three months, the car will become our home again. It is very difficult to find appropriate housing for my family right now. My family and I appreciate any assistance and kindness you are able to provide. We will greatly appreciate it. Your assistance will help us get transportation that we need to find a permanent home.
