La Casa de la Madre y el Niño Fundraiser
Tax deductible
Hi, I’m Ella, and this fundraiser means a lot to me because my Mom and sister were adopted from La Casa de la Madre y el Niño in Bogotá, Colombia. In 1973 my Mom was adopted from the orphanage by my grandma and grandpa. In 2017, my parents returned, along with my two brothers and me, to adopt my little sister from the same orphanage. La Casa has placed over 8,000 children into families all over the world. Although the primary purpose at La Casa is to place every child in a happy and healthy home, La Casa contributes to many facets of the process that may or may not lead up to a child being put up for adoption. They understand human life is important from the beginning. It means taking care of the mother— her whole self —mental, emotional and physical health.
A few years ago, I raised money for the children at the orphanage to buy bikes and skates. This time my best friend Rafa and I decided to work together to fund a different part of the work at La Casa, which is to support mothers in their pregnancies. These pregnant woman they are supporting in Colombia, have usually experienced sexual abuse, and they tend to live in poverty. Your kind donations would help these soon-to-be mothers in many ways.
Hi, I’m Rafa and even though I don’t have a direct connection with La Casa de la Madre y el Niño, I have been lucky enough to grow side by side with Ella’s family. This orphanage is the reason my best friend Ella is here thanks to her mother being adopted from there, and it has also blessed the family with Ella’s amazing little sister. I have seen how much this orphanage has helped this family and can only imagine the amount of joy it has brought to others.
“Since La Casa de la Madre y el Niño was founded to date we have given protection to around 3,000 women in the maternity shelter. This program receives and serves mothers with unwanted pregnancies or pregnancies in conflict, who have considered the option of giving up their babies for adoption.
The women can enter the program under two options of care services: boarding or outside living. As boarders they have to possibility of living at La Casa during their pregnancy and in the post-partum period, to care for themselves and their babies. They are taken care of by an interdisciplinary team formed by a nutritionist, a psychologist, a social worker, the nursing team at La Casa and a support gynecologist. We also work closely with the hospitals in the area to provide overall health care.”
“The services provided are free of charge. Those entering the program come in after a thorough information about all the options and taking into consideration the problems they are facing. They come in freely and willingly, and they can leave whenever they wish to do so.
The main benefits for these mothers is that all their basic needs at this time are satisfied, in order to come out of the vulnerability situation in which they find themselves. This in a safe, trusted and confidential environment, where they receive the information and care they need to make a conscious and free decision, to protect both the mental and physical health of the baby they are expecting as well as their own. It is a process enabling them to learn and grow as individuals, as women and as mothers. They are in contact with other women under the same circumstances thus giving a meaning to their own experience.”

This is where your donations would come in to support them. Any amount is appreciated.
La Casa is not your typical orphanage. They truly care about children's welfare. When we were adopting Farrah, there were many older children who rarely get adopted, since most families tend to want to adopt babies. Now they have a youth home for kids ages 10-17, that focuses specifically on the children in that age group.
