Our beautiful chapel, La Capilla de San Raphael de El Guique built in the late 1800s is in need of major repairs. The roof is leaking and damaging the thick adobe walls. The fence around the capilla is also in disrepair and needs to be replaced. We have been advised that we must install 2 gates for ingress and egress in the event of a fire.
We hope to raise funds and make repairs in 3 phases. Phase 1 - Replace the roof (high priority) Phase 2 - replace fence and Phase 3 - purchase and install 2 gates.
The current mayordomos, Jimmy and Elaine Martinez, have in the last 7 years, with few donations from the community, spent their own time and money to ensure that the capilla is maintained. They have removed trees that were infested with carpenter ants, painted the porch and bought and installed new LED lighting. They are now willing to take a lead in this project with the help of the community.
We are hoping to raise $48,000 for Phase 1, which will allow us to install a new roof. These funds will allow us to remove the existing roof to deck and haul off-site, replace the roof with a metal panel roof system, and fabrication and installation of a new seamless rain gutter system to keep the moisture away from the walls. Once the roof is completed, we will continue to fundraise for the new fencing and new gates.
PLEASE help us to meet our goal, we cannot accomplish this without the assistance of our community. Any contributions you make will make a difference. HELP us to preserve this beautiful capilla that our forefathers built. We cannot let it go to ruin. Let us continue the traditions/culture created in the community of El Guique.
Thank you so much for your time and may God Bless You.
