Life can change in an instant. This was certainly the case for my father, Jack Pearce, in August 2013 when the strong, athletic and energetic man broke his neck on a trampoline. In a split second Jack became a quadriplegic. His neck was broken at the C6/7 vertebrae. Jack is not one to sit back and accept this terrible fate. He is a fighter and he vowed to do everything he could to improve his situation, not only for himself and his family, but for others who share his same plight.
Fast forward 1½ years and Jack discovers a treatment for people with spinal cord injuries; an experimental stem cell treatment. Based on research, and the experience of a fellow patient at Brooks Rehabilitation, stem cell injections have increased the quality of life for other people with his level of spinal injury. Due to American prohibitive laws and misplaced controversy relating to stem cell research, the leading minds/advancements in the field are at The Stem Cell Institute in Panama City, Panama. These cutting edge experimental treatments all-in cost $50,000 for the initial treatment and $30,000 for 5 to 6 subsequent treatments, none of which is covered by insurance.
Jack is hoping to venture to Panama in June on a new journey that could drastically change his quality of life. But he is also hoping to document his experience so that others can possibly benefit. He will produce a documentary that will give a firsthand account of the process and show the positive effect of stem cell treatments on a quadriplegic. There is currently very little information out there but this could shine a light on these treatments and open a new world of possibilities for others in a similar predicament.
Jack is way too proud to ask for help, so I am asking you to please consider making a donation towards my father’s treatment and the documentation of this process. It could be life changing for him and millions more if this stem cell treatment proves to be a success. Imagine a day when it’s no longer considered experimental but a proven method of treating spinal cord patients and giving them a new lease on life. Any amount you are able to contribute will help immensely. Please join us on this journey of hope.
