Peruvian Amazon Expedition 2015

Hi, my name is Beatrice, I'm nearly 16 years old and have always been passionate about conservation, wildlife and photography.
I am lucky enough to have been given a wonderful opportunity to go and study in the Peruvian Amazon, on a 3 week expedition with the British Exploring Society. It will involve trekking deep into the Rainforest and studying the rich biodiversity of the wildlife and plants.
I will be working and researching in partnership with the Crees Foundation to conserve the area's flora and fauna, breeding habits, migration, behaviour and the impact of hunting and deforestation. There will also be opportunitues to get involved with community projects, to build gardens and help develop sustainable forestry cultivation. I will be taking lots of photos and film, documenting my time there, but also gaining experience in an area I want to pursue a career in - Wildlife Photography. It matters to me that we try to help save the Rainforest, the homes of indigenous communities, the supply of food and water, a source of vital medicines and the habitats of thousands of plants and animals. Deforestation is causing global warming, raised sea levels, flooding and drought. Burning wood increases the greenhouse effect, land erodes and nutrients are washed away, leaving the poor land to become desert. It has taken millions of years for the Rainforest to develop and if deforestation continues at current rates, scientists estimate nearly 80 to 90% of tropical rainforest ecosystems will be destroyed by the year 2020.

In order to go on this trip I need to raise £3800, to cover the expedition, flights and equipment. I am so excited, it will be a challenge and a fantastic opportunity.
